Partial Hospitalization Program for Children

The Horsham Clinic’s Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) for children is designed to provide short-term, highly structured behavioral health treatment for youth ages 5–12. Patients in our PHP for children are generally experiencing a level of psychiatric distress that requires consistent care, but are stable enough to return home after their treatment program ends each day. Children and young adolescents participate in programming in separate groups, according to their age.

The goal of partial hospitalization is to offer a less restrictive alternative to children and their families when inpatient treatment may not be the most appropriate avenue for their care. This program can also serve as an intermediate step for youths who are leaving inpatient hospitalization as they prepare to return to school and their community.

Program highlights:

  • Tutorial services are available five days a week by a Pennsylvania-certified teacher
  • We use a reward system for behavioral modification
  • Treatment is provided by board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrists
  • We complete comprehensive after care planning to provide patients with the appropriate level of care after they leave the program
  • We offer individual, group and family therapy
  • Counselors lead group therapy sessions. Among the topics covered in these sessions are:
    • Anger management
    • Conflict resolution
    • Coping skills
    • Social skills training
  • We use a number of treatment modalities to help patients, including art, music and recreational therapy
  • Masters-level clinicians at The Horsham Clinic collaborate with schools and other service providers through proper communication and interagency meetings to help reintegrate children or pre-teens into their school setting
  • We develop treatment plans for each child, and each plan identifies the patient’s strengths and goals
  • We also offer medication management, as needed
